A tribute to Marimekko

H&M's Spring/Summer '08 collaboration with Finnish Marimekko hasn't gained too much publicity in the media and blogosphere, and to be honest I'm not that surprised. Marimekko's typical patterns and designs were really popular in the '70s, almost overdosed and you could find it in almost any home - curtains, jars, clothing, pillows, note pads, you name it - and I don't think enough time has passed for it to become "hot" again.
The last years it has been neither hot nor cold, really. I'd say that the common people, at least the Swedes, need ten more years or so to process and get over the (sometimes) horrible '70s-fashion.

Personally I really like the typical Marimekko flowers and I'm a bit disappointed they didn't use them in the H&M collection. I also usually fall for the typical brown-orange-yellow combinations that is so typical of the '70s, that has been used in this collection. Frankly, I think it's quite ugly but my favourite dress is brown and mustard yellow, so I'd call it a bittersweet hatelove.

I did like this bikini though!

...and from the men's collection, I really liked this t-shirt.

However, it doesn't exactly scream Marimekko, it's more of an ordinary, good looking, T-shirt.
You can check out the rest here.
